Gamenotes 5-6-09 vs Mil
SS Alex Gonzalez left Monday’s game at Fla after the 10th inning with a strained left oblique muscle…he received a cortisone shot here yesterday and will be evaluated again when he arrives at the ballpark today…3B Edwin Encarnacion (chip fracture, left wrist) will have his cast removed today…he will be examined and then fitted with a removable splint.
And from the Elias Sports Bureau…
For only the third time in the live-ball era, the Redlegs have posted 4 team shutouts over a 6-game span…the starting pitchers in those shutouts were Edinson Volquez, Bronson Arroyo, Johnny Cueto and Volquez again…starters in the previous 2 instances were Elmer Riddle, Johnny Vander Meer, Joe Beggs and Vander Meer in 1943, followed in 1970 by Gary Nolan, Jim McGlothlin, Jim Merritt and Nolan.
In last night’s 7-0 win at Fla, Brandon Phillips produced a career-high 6rbi for the third time…during the expansion era, only 3 other starting second basemen had at least three 6-RBI games: Jeff Kent (7), Bret Boone (5) and Ryne Sandberg (3).

Radio Star
Today I appeared on the pre-game show of the Clinton LumberKings radio broadcast. Listen to the entire interview below:
Jim Misudek Interview 5.5.09.mp3
You can follow Dave Lezotte’s blog at http://lumberkings.mlblogs.com/.
Here is the view of Dragons’ batting practice from Fifth Third Field in Dayton. This was shortly before the horn sounded signaling the opening of the gates. If you’ve been there before, you know what I mean.
This is the visiting radio booth in Dayton. Seen on the left is my friend Dave Lezotte of the Clinton LumberKings hard at work. I took some heat by wearing my Reds jacket while coming out of the visiting radio booth.
Dragons’ mascot Heater disrespected this young fan. They settled it as they did in the old days; they threw fisticuffs.

Tune in tomorrow
Tomorrow (Tuesday 5/5) I will be in Dayton for the Dragons’ game vs the Clinton LumberKings. My friend Dave Lezotte is the media relations/radio guy for the Clinton team. I will be appearing on his pre-game radio show and might do some color during the game. For the most part, we will be talking about our baseball experiences and touch on some of the former Dayton players now with the Reds.
The pre-game show begins at 6:45 p.m. ET and can be heard for free on www.kcln.com (click on the LumberKings logo on the left side of the page).
