ALEXANDER THE GRAND: Alex Gonzalez’ RBI-single in the fourth inning of last night’s game off Javier Vazquez was hit 1,000th career hit.

WALK THIS WAY: RHP Edinson Volquez walked 5 batters in the top of the fourth inning. He is the first pitcher in the majors to walk 5 batters in an inning since Washington’s Jason Bergmann walked 5 in the top of the third inning vs the Mets on 8/13/08. He is the first Reds pitcher to do it since Ryan Dempster walked 6 batters in the bottom of the second inning on 4/30/03 at Colorado.

RED ALERT: The Reds apologize to fans who were inconvenienced or delayed entry last night because of the tickets.com system failure that affected the walkup kiosks at Great American Ball Park. Questions can be directed to (513) 765-7500.

Former Reds player Ken Griffey Jr. featured in Sports Illustrated

A nice Griffey story from Sports Illustrated…

After nine years with the Cincinnati Reds, Ken Griffey Jr. is back in Seattle. In interviewing a multitude of people in Mariners Nation – including rock stars, expectant parents and choked-up members of the team brass – senior Sports Illustrated writer Lee Jenkins discovers that the Emerald City’s affection for “the Kid” has only grown stronger with time. The article, It’s Like You Never Left, Kid, is attached below in layout form.
