Gonzalez to Red Sox.pdf

Cincinnati Reds President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Walt Jocketty today announced the acquisition of minor league SS Kristopher Negron from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for SS Alex Gonzalez and cash.

Negron, 23, has spent the season at Class A Salem, where he hit .264 with 3 homers and 34 RBI in 111 games. He will be assigned to the Reds’ Florida State League affiliate in Sarasota. (pictured below)

, 32, this season for the Reds hit .210 in 68 games. In June and July he missed 28 games following surgery to remove 4 loose bodies from his right elbow.

To fill Gonzalez’ spot on the 25-man roster, the Reds have selected from Class AAA Louisville the contract of IF Kevin Barker. In 100 games for the Bats he hit .284 with 22 HR and 68 RBI. He will wear uniform number 60. (pictured below)

Fresno, FresYES

My trek to the west coast ended in Fresno, California and Chukchansi Park, home of the Fresno Grizzlies.  Part 3 of 3.

FRESNO1.JPG

FRESNO3.JPGChukchansi Park and the Fresno Grizzlies (AAA Giants) played host to the Oklahoma City RedHawks (AAA Rangers).

POSEY1.JPGGiants’ prospect C Buster Posey started the game and batted fourth.  He went 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run and 2 RBI.  He left the game in the fifth inning after feeling pain in his side.  He was run over in a play-at-the-plate on Saturday.

SMOAK1.JPG

Rangers’ prospect 1B Justin Smoak also batted fourth and went 1-for-3 at the plate with 2 walks.  Fresno defeated Oklahoma City 6-3.

FRESNO2.JPG

Seen batting here is Rangers’ INF Chris Davis.  He went 2-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBI.

Oaktown

My travels also took me to across the bay to Oakland.  A friend of mine works at the McAfee Coliseum/Oracle Arena, so I was able to get a sneak peak.  Part 2 of 3.

MCAFEE_COMBO.JPG

MCAFEE2.JPGMcAfee Coliseum is home to both the Oakland Athletics and Oakland Raiders.  As you can see, the field is set up for an upcoming Raiders game.  The infield skin is not covered until the baseball season is over.

ORACLE_OUT.JPG

Literally right next door is Oracle Arena, home of the Golden State Warriors.  The entrances of the two buildings are separated by only a small courtyard that spans about 50 feet.

GS_WARRIORS.JPG

I am not a Warriors’ player; therefore, I was not allowed to enter.

IN_N_OUT.JPG

Lunch was enjoyed at this California staple, In-N-Out Burger.
