G-20/20
The City of Pittsburgh today and tomorrow is hosting the G-20 Summit…President Obama is chairing this meeting of leaders from countries around the globe that represent 85 percent of the world’s economy…the leaders will review the progress made since the Washington and London Summits and will discuss further actions to assure a sound and sustainable recovery from the current global fi nancial and economic crisis…the Group of Twenty (G-20) formally was established in 1999 to bring together major industrialized and developing economies to discuss key issues in the global economy. I think I have seen more helicopters in the last three days than I have in my entire life to this point.
A group of protesters are seen here crossing over the Roberto Clemente Bridge towards downtown. They returned to the other side after meeting a large group of armed riot gear-clad police officers.
The downtown area of Pittsburgh was truly on lockdown. Fences lined the sidewalks and armed guards patroled the streets in formation. No one was allowed on the streets or in the buildings without proper credentials. It seemed as though martial law was in affect, no joke.
