President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Walt Jocketty today announced that the Cincinnati Reds and C Ramon Hernandez have agreed to terms on a 1-year contract through the 2010 season with an option for 2011. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

In 81 games last season Hernandez hit .258 with 13 doubles, 5 HR and 37 RBI. With Joey Votto on the disabled list in June, Hernandez started at first base in 18 of the Reds' 21 games. From July 20-September 18 he missed 57 games while on the disabled list with a left knee injury that required surgery.

The Dayton Dragons announced their 2010 coaching staff today, as assigned by the Cincinnati Reds. See attached release for more information.

Manager Todd Benzinger and pitching coach Tony Fossas will return for their second seasons with the Dragons.  Former Major League All-Star outfielder Ken Griffey, Sr. will join the Dragons field staff as hitting coach.  Tyler Steele will return for his second season as athletic trainer.

The Dragons will open their 11th season in the Midwest League on April 8, 2010 against the Lansing Lugnuts at Fifth Third Field.

HAL McCOY: Longtime Reds beat writer and Hall of Famer Hal McCoy will be recognized by the City of Englewood on Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Englewood City Building (333 National Road)...the long-time resident of Englewood will greet fans, sign autographs and answer questions...the 2009 season was the last covered by McCoy as beat writer for the Dayton Daily News...the longest-tenured beat writer in the country, he covered the Reds for 37 of his 46 years at the DDN.

The Lynchburg (VA) Hillcats are pleased to announce that in the 2010 season they will serve as the Advanced-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. The move became official when the Florida State League owners approved the Pittsburgh Pirates bid to purchase Cincinnati's High-A club in Sarasota, Fla.

With this approval, the Pirates have taken over control of the Reds Advanced-A team, and are relocating the club to Bradenton, Fla. Pittsburgh already has their Spring Training facility and Gulf Coast League team in Bradenton as part of Pirate City.

Cincinnati will move its High-A team to Lynchburg to replace the Pirates, who had called City Stadium their Advanced-A home since 1995. The Reds will be just the second team to use the moniker of Hillcats, which was formed when the Pirates began their affiliation. Cincinnati will assume responsibility of the final year of a two-year contract that Pittsburgh signed before the start of the 2009 season.

Seen here are photos of Calvin Falwell Field at City Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia. The stadium was built in 1940 and has seen many renovations, the last in 2005.

The original construction of the baseball park and an adjacent football field was a part of the New Deal's Work Progress Administration programs. Field dimensions: LF-325', CF-390', RF-325'. Capacity: 4,281.

The Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday announced that they have purchased the Florida State League team located in Sarasota, Florida, and will be relocating the team north to Bradenton, Florida. The move became official following a vote of approval by Florida State League owners this afternoon at their League meetings in Daytona Beach.

The Florida State League affiliate will move from Ed Smith Stadium (above left, built in 1988) in Sarasota to McKechnie Field (above right, built in 1993, improved in 2007) in Bradenton.

The purchase of the Florida State League affiliate from the Cincinnati Reds organization strengthens the Pirates core baseball operations by locating the club's High-A team in the hub of its player development facilities in Bradenton. The City of Bradenton's investment in lights at McKechnie Field in 2007 allowed the Pirates to bring Florida State League baseball to the area and solidify a year-round commitment by the Pirates to the City and the region.

While the official team name and logo will be announced in the coming weeks, the inaugural game of the new Pirates affiliate is scheduled to be played on the evening of April 8 under the lights at McKechnie Field. The Pirates will mark the occasion with a post-game fireworks celebration. The full 140-game schedule will be announced shortly.

Collectors, Reds fans and enthusiasts alike are invited to the Cincinnati Art Museum on Thursday, Nov. 12 for the unveiling of a limited edition print, Redsland Forever, by Cincinnati native artist C.F. Payne. See attachments for more information.

Redsland Forever features fourteen illustrated caricatures of Cincinnati Reds legends spanning 140 years of Reds baseball, including Eric Davis, Chris Sabo, Joe Nuxhall and members of the Big Red Machine.

The public is invited to a free cocktail reception from 6:30-8:30 p.m. An informal lecture by the artist will begin at 7 p.m. on November 12. 2010 Reds Hall of Fame inductee Chris Sabo will meet and greet with fans prior to the lecture.  

A total of 1,500 copies of the print will be available for purchase. Each of the 1,500 limited edition prints is individually numbered. Prints numbered 1 through 500 are signed by C.F. Payne, framed and available for $250. Unsigned, numbered prints are $50 each. Prints are available exclusively at the Cincinnati Art Museum Shop starting Nov. 12. Call the Museum Shop at (513) 639-2958 to reserve yours today. They will also be available online at www.reds.com.

Proceeds from sale will benefit the Reds Community Fund's baseball-themed outreach programs and the Cincinnati Art Museum.
